Opus 1 Student Event Opportunities

Guidelines for ALL Opus 1 Recitals

  • Signups: Teachers
Teachers are responsible for signing up students, which is done through their Opus 1 io accounts, available when signups open. Watch for announcements on Currents for reminders and notifications regarding the start and deadline of signing up students. Students must confirm their attendance. Please note there is a different signup process for the Holiday Party (see below)

  • Signups: Students
Once signed up, students/parents are responsible for confirming their attendance. If unable to attend or need a different time, they will have the option within the notification to make this request. Admin staff will reach out to students who have not confirmed, though we ask teachers to give friendly reminders to confirm if staff have been unable to reach their student. Please note there is a different signup process for the Holiday Party (see below)

  • Accompaniments
Students have the option to receive an Opus 1 accompanist for their recital performance. Please indicate this request at the time of signup.

(1) SPRING Recital

WHEN: Late February-Early March

The Spring Recital has three available days with sessions spread across each day from morning until evening. All students of Opus 1 are welcome to participate. Memorization is encouraged but not required. The repertoire is at the discretion of the student and teacher and may include method book pieces appropriate for a performance. Students may perform up to 2 pieces. Attendance is free and open to the public.

(3) ADULT Recitals

WHEN: May & November

The adult recitals give our Opus 1 adult students the opportunity to perform with one another in a supportive peer environment. Attendance is free and open to the public.

(5) HOLIDAY Party

WHEN: December

The Holiday Party is an opportunity for Opus 1 to celebrate the close of the year and the holidays. It is a time to come together as faculty, staff, students, and families to have fun, make music, and enjoy great food.

Students receive an invitation to attend from Opus 1. If they’d like to perform, they’ll be invited to do so on a first-come-first-served basis. Once they’ve confirmed to perform, students are assigned a performance order number. At the Holiday Party, they’ll be called up to share their piece as time allows. Signing up does not guarantee performance - it will depend on the number of students, the available time, and the order they signed up.

Holiday-themed repertoire is required for performance at the Holiday Party. Exceptions can be granted with administrative approval.

(2) SUMMER Recital

WHEN: Throughout June

The Summer Recital has three available days with sessions spread across each day from morning until evening. All students of Opus 1 are welcome to participate. Memorization is encouraged but not required. The repertoire is at the discretion of the student and teacher and may include method book pieces appropriate for a performance. Students may perform up to 2 pieces. Attendance is free and open to the public.

(4) HONORS Recital

WHEN: November

This is an exclusive recital and participation requires teacher nomination. Only students who meet the performer requirements (click here) are eligible to participate. The Honors Recital is intended to feature our best and most dedicated students.

Students are limited to 1 piece with time restrictions (see the announcement at time of signups for additional information). Memorization is required. No method book pieces may be used without approval.
